Hands on with Day: A Day of Service at Sandy Creek Park
HandsOn Northeast Georgia, a program of Community Connection will hold an event celebrating father's day with an organized day of service for families.

In cooperation with Sandy Creek Park, families can participate in projects that give families the opportunity to spend quality time together while helping the community. The projects being developed for this day are youth (5+) and teen friendly and include various park beautification projects as well as cleaning-up the lake and trails.

HandsOn With Dad seeks to engage over 50 family volunteers in the day of service. The day starts projects at 10:00 followed by lunch provided by Mama’s Boy and Marti’s at Midday. Trail Keepers
The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services’ Natural Resources Division is recruiting volunteers for its Trail Keepers program. Sandy Creek Nature Center, Sandy Creek Park, and the Greenways and Riverside Parks feature more than 15 miles of trails through thousands of acres of wetlands, woodlands, and upland forests.

These trails need constant care and upkeep to keep them in good shape for everyone to enjoy. Citizens can help by adopting a trail.

The Trail Keepers program is designed for individuals, groups, or families. Interested parties adopt a trail for 6 months and commit to walk the trail at least once each month, performing any necessary light maintenance. Training and tools provided. Volunteers will be recognized for their commitment our local natural resources and receive a Trail Keepers patch. This is a great opportunity to work together in the outdoors on a project that benefits some of Athens-Clarke County’s most popular natural areas. Not a huge commitment, just a day in the woods each month.

Contact Janice Denney, Volunteer Coordinator at 706-613-3615, ext. 227 for more information or to sign-up and adopt your favorite trailwoods each month.
