Star-Spangled Classic Star Spangled Classic A summertime tradition continues with the annual Star Spangled Classic on Friday, July 4 at Bishop Park presented by the Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services. This year’s event is made possible through the generous support of local businesses and citizens who raised $13,000 to fund the Star Spangled Classic. Donors to the Star Spangled Classic are: Allen’s; Athens First Bank and Trust; Bob Salon; 8e’s Bar; Community Spec, Inc.; Farm 255; Five and Ten Restaurant; Kingpins Bowl and Brew; Northeast Georgia Temporary Service; PeachMac; R.E.M.; Silver and Archibald, LLP; Tasty World; Technical Services Audio Visual (TSAV); and a private donor in honor of Prevent Child Abuse Athens. This community Independence Day celebration begins at 6:00 p.m. and continues through the evening with musical performances by the Classic City Band and The 60’s. The ACC Community Birthday Cake, donated by Publix, will be served, as well. The evening culminates with a spectacular fireworks display at approximately 9:30 p.m., dependent on weather conditions and darkness. The Star Spangled Classic is free and open to the public. Citizens are reminded that ordinances prohibit alcohol and smoking in public parks. Pets and grills are not allowed in Bishop Park for this event due to safety concerns and the large crowd.
