Memorial Day in Memorial Park
Celebrate Memorial Day at Memorial Park!

Memorial Park will host the annual Memorial Day in Memorial Park on Monday, May 26 from Noon – 3:00 p.m.

This year’s event is highlighted with the special unveiling of the Purple Heart Monument, located near the park’s flagpole, at 2:00 p.m. This special monument lists the names of area servicemen who have been awarded the Purple Heart in service to the United States.

US Congressman Paul Broun will provide the keynote address and will donate an American flag that has flown over the US Capitol.

Organizations scheduled to participate in the program include the American Legion, area boy scouts and girl scouts, Clarke Central ROTC and marching band, the University of Georgia ROTC, US Navy Supply Corps School, the US Army National Guard, and the VFW.

Other park activities for the day will include concessions, inflatables, face painting and much more. The public is reminded that the park pool will not open until June 3. This program is open to all ages and is free of charge.

Memorial Park is a facility of the Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services.
