ELIGIBILITYGirls ages six and older can be invited to test for Athens Clarke Gymnastics Academy's competitive teams. Team members are selected based on strength, flexibility, maturity and skill development. Evaluations are held twice a year; however, transfer gymnasts will be considered at any time during the year.
Gymnasts Adopt FamilyCongratulations to our competitive team members! In keeping with their tradition of giving to others, the gymnasts chose to adopt a family of four this Christmas as their Christmas 2007 Service Project. In lieu of exchanging gifts amongst themselves, they purchased gifts and food for the adopted family. The children in the family ranged in age from 10 months to 7 years. Gymnasts visit Elderly at Nursing Home Not only do we have the most talented gymnasts, but we also have the most caring gymnasts. On December 21, 2006, members of our competitive program visited Athens Heritage Nursing Home and performed a dance routine for the residents. They also played bingo and passed out presents. The residents enjoyed their company and invited them to come back. On Monday, December 19, 2005 members of our competitive teams visited the pediatric units at Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary's Hospital and distributed teddy bears to children staying in the hospital during Christmas. The girls wrote letters to Build-a-bear Workshop and asked them to donate the bears. Build-a-bear Workshop responded by donating two dozens bears. The girls also distributed a poem written by one of the gymnast's sisters. We have a new designer in our midst. 7-year old Madeline entered a nationwide contest sponsored by Bonnie Jean Dress Company and children's book author C.M. Rubin and was selected as one of the top three winners. Over 2500 girls submitted their sketches and ideas. The theme of the contest was modeled from Rubin's book "Ellie: The Perfect Dress for Me." Read more about Madeline's story in the Athens Banner-Herald Madeline is a level 4 gymnast here at ACGA. Way to go Madeline! See also: ACC Leisure Services Home Page |
