Summer art camp registration begins Saturday, March 29 at 9:30 a.m.

Lyndon House Arts Center will have art programs throughout the summer for children ages 4-12.

These programs will range from animal and ocean inspired art, to creating art using recycled materials, to exploring such exotic places as Australia and Africa!



Animals All Around- Wait List Available
Tails and trunks, fins and feet, strips and spots, feathers and fur. Animals of all kinds will inspire your art making. Explore colors, lines, shapes and textures with all kinds of art materials. Hear exciting animal stories and share some of your own experiences with animals. Limit 24

Cartooning Art Camp
Sharpen your cartoon drawing skills. You’ll have fun drawing animals, people and objects in both a realistic way using contour, light and shadow, and in a cartoon fashion using simplification, exaggeration and imagination.

Develop a character and learn to tell a story with your drawings, complete with special effects such as speed lines and thinking balloons. Limit 20

Using the ocean and literature as a backdrop, come visit a world with magical mermaids, wonderful whales, sparkling starfish, fanciful fish and jazzy jellyfish! Listen to stories and tales of the sea, then paint, draw and create with literature and the magic of the ocean as your inspiration. Limit 24

Let’s take a trip to the land down under! Australia will inspire us as we create fanciful didgeridoos, and beautiful landscapes. We will study the aboriginal people and the art of Aboriginal Dreamtime paintings, and the artists who make them. We will have a bonza time! Limit 24

It’s My Planet – Explore the Wonders of the Ocean - Wait List Available
Explore the wonders of the ocean and its beneficial effect on the earth. You’ll explore the artist Wyland and his giant sea murals, and learn about conservation and aquatic habitats. We will incorporate papermaking, sculpture, drawing, painting, and recycling into art inspired by the magical depths of the ocean and the beautiful sea creatures found there. Lyndon House is partnering with Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division for a fun filled week. Limit 45

We will safari to Africa and explore the beautiful art traditions found there. You will learn about traditional African art-making techniques, including papyrus painting, mask making, bead work, cloth dying, and drum art. Your creativity will be inspired by the diversity and the history of this complex continent. Limit 45

Teen Camp: Drawing and Painting
Whether you are new to drawing and painting or just want to sharpen your skills, come join us for an exciting class where you will transform line and color into shapes and interesting compositions. You’ll learn drawing techniques and how to paint in the quick “alla prima” method as well as other skills. The instructors will also demonstrate how to stretch your own canvass. We’ll provide the pencils, paper, paints, brushes and painting surface, you provide the imagination. Limit 16.

Teen Camp: Beaded Jewelry
Make your own professional looking beaded jewelry! You’ll learn the basics about tools, findings, stringing, materials, finishing as well as design. The class will include creating a necklace, earrings, chandelier earrings, and multi-strand pieces. The instructor will provide all the basic glass beads you’ll need to learn these techniques, but you can use those gorgeous beads you’ve been collecting, too. Limit 8.

Teen Cartoon Illustrator’s Club
This informal gathering of teens, who like to draw Anime and cartoons of all kinds, meets twice each month. The meetings usually are a discussion of recent drawings and characters led by cartoonist artist Robert Brown. Occasionally the club invites adults who have made a career or hobby with their own drawing skills. The meeting ends with pizza and fellowship.
